Hey, I stumbled across this community via retro_gaming. Just thought I'd say hello!

I'm a huge fan of retro gaming -- MAME, Stella, original hardware, etc...

I think classic arcade gaming is really where it's at. A lot of the gamer kids I run into yelp when I trash-talk game pads and the glut of fighting games in the last decade, but I think there's little comparison to the wonderful controller hardware of the coin-ops to some of the cheap crap that's churned out for console (and PC) gamepads.

There are a few great websites where MAME hobbyists show plans and setups for modular design cabinets. Doc's Modular MAME is one. There's some really good support for designing cabinets that accomodate most of the classic controllers.

Arcade restoration is a horse of another color, so to speak. There are some other great websites that show the labor of love these hobbyists put into old machines, such as http://www.basementarcade.com/

Unfortunately, this community is probably even more inactive than the retro gaming one. But... if you're interested in the info I mentioned, perhaps we could write up a few articles and see how things go, hmmm?

Thanks for the links! I actually have an old PC that I'm just using to run MAME and Stella on right now.

Mostly I'm just a big fan of this stuff, you know? I'd love to be able to have some kind of MAME cabinet someday, when I have the time, resources, etc...
